Happy New Year! This year, 2020, is very special for all of us here at ACF-Metals. Since 1970 to 2020 we have been making outstanding products, and we are going strong! We have the privilege of providing an essential component for experiments being done all over the world, and extending out into space. We appreciate getting to know you, our Customers, through your work, and at conferences as well. ACF plans to attend a few conferences this year, including CAARI/SNEAP in Las Vegas, WTTC in Canada, and INTDS in Switzerland. We would love to know what conferences you will be attending, and if your work will be featured? Please send me an email and let me know! Here's to us all having a wonderful New Year! Cheers!

Here is a great video of a 115µg/sq.cm carbon foil floating on water, and our technician cutting it with scissors. The secret to this technique is making sure to hold the top of the scissor against the top of the foil and cutting bottom up, as opposed to placing the bottom of the scissor against the bottom of the foil and cutting top down. 😊

Loose foils can be intimidating. We all love it when the foil is tight to the substrate, however, at 100µg/sq.cm, often the foil has begun to self-release from the substrate, tis the nature of the beast! This could appear to be a problem, when in fact it's not. I'm attaching a video on this subject, of a loose 2"x3" foil, 100µg/sq.cm, video shows one of our technicians floating a loose foil, with very stable hands. :)

ACF is happy to invite you to attend a free workshop-meeting where we bring sample foils and show how to cut and mount the stripper foils onto cyclotron forks that are used on Cyclotron all over the world! We are finding more and more labs struggling with the high costs of consumables. When labs find us, they are surprised that the very foils they are used to using are actually made right here in Arizona for the last 50 years! Equally surprised at how reasonable the prices are compared to alternative sources. So, the demand has come to light, for technicians to be able to cut and mount the stripper foils they use everyday themselves. Please feel free to contact me and let me know if this kind of workshop would be of interest to you, and we'll make it happen!

All you need are a few key items, and you can do this process yourself. One of our Customers was so kind as to submit this video so you can see his method for cutting and mounting the F-12 fold-over fork! Check it out!

QUESTION from User: "I use 100µg/sq.cm carbon foil, and we use about 30000uAh per foil. Trend of beam spread can be seen when we use more than that. How much operating time are other users getting with this foil under the same conditions?"

In IBA Cyclone 18-9
This user 'inherited' their position/machine, and was looking for some helpful information. QUESTION: "I am using the IBA Cyclone 18-9, can you recommend the best carbon foil to use, and any data with respect to operating peramaters using the recommended foil?" ANSWER: "I am told the PCG-1000 is used with this particular machine, depending on what you are making, or perhaps the tightness of the beam. However I will ask around, and get some other input."

In ACS-TR 19 Cyclotron
The ACS-TR19 is described as a 19 MeV fixed and variable energy negative ion cyclotrons for the production of commonly used PET (positron emission tomography) radioisotopes; F-18, N-13, O-15, C-11 and Pd-103, as well as research isotopes. The question I received from a User in Europe was as follows (paraphrased): QUESTION: I have used the XCF-200 carbon foil on the ACS and it's good, but I wanted to try the PCG-400, I used it for 7 days, It's OK, Because transmission values are the %88-89 that is successful. Double irradiations are 90 mikroamper that we see on the targets. The arc value is average 5 amper. If the transmission values are high value, this is good or not good for the production? Does the machine produce high activity that is to the low value transmission?

In this case the carbon foil is on a 1"X3" mica substrate, and the video is worth a thousand words!
